tidying the garden
I leave the dark purple weed
undisturbed

-o0o-

 among Grandpa's books
an ancient Latin grammar
pressed flowers inside

-o0o-

after the downpour
steam rises from the cattle
the sun breaking through

-o0o-

in the museum
moonlight casts weird shadows
in the dinosaur hall

-o0o-

these mayflies
tireless in their twilight dance
won't see tomorrow

-o0o-

Friday the Thirteenth
the Buddha on the bookcase
just keeps on smiling

-o0o-

 snow still on the hills
a watery sun competes
with strengthening winds

-o0o-

our dog, waking up,
makes a dash for the front door
time for the postman

-o0o-

temple bells die out/the fragrant blossoms remain/a perfect evening!
MATSUO BASHO
